WELCOME TO THE MARIOLOGY DEVELOPMENT CENTER (MDCN)

Brief History

The Mariology Development Center, Nigeria (MDCN) is a scientific Center for research, studies, intercultural and cultural diplomacy promotion, as well as the promotion of an authentic Marian piety in Africa. The Center was established in 2018 in the International Bio-Research Institute (IBI), Ugwogo Nike, Enugu, Nigeria with the approval of the Pontificia Academia Mariana Inernationalis (PAMI). It is one of the eleven (11) Marian Centers in the world, affiliated to, and, representing the PAMI in different continents. The Center was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Nigeria, and was officially inaugurated in 2019. The Pontificia Academia Mariana (PAMI) considers this young Marian Center in Nigeria as its pioneer and model Center on the entire African continent. The President of the MDCN is Professor Edmund Ugwu Agbo.

In September 2019, the young Center of PAMI in Africa creditable successfully organized the “First Global Marian Congress in Africa”. Since inauguration of the MDCN – PAMI, research projects, studies in various fields – Mariology, Integral Ecology, African Traditional Medicine (Naturopathy, Phyto-therapy, Apparitions and Mystical Phenomena in Africa, Cultural Diplomacy, African Thought [African Philosophy], Geopolitics Inter-Religious Dialogue, Ecumenism, Religion-based Intolerance and Violence in Africa, Christian Persecution in Africa, History of Religions in Africa, Mary and the quintessence of womanhood, Catechesis, Pastoral theology and Homiletics. and so forth. All the Courses offered by the MDCN are accredited by PAMI and the certification of all of them is by PAMI,

In virtue of the institutional approval, affiliation and accreditation of all the programs of the MDCN by PAMI, the latter (PAMI), in se’ or in collaboration with its institutions and associate Centers worldwide, supervises programs of the former (MDCN) and issues the appropriate Certificates: Diplomas or degrees.

PRINCIPAL OBJECTS:

  1. To promote research, studies and training in ecology and environmental management;
  2. To develop advanced research and studies of the figure of Mary of Nazareth;

  3. To promote African cultures, languages, religions, economies and politics through research, studies and training in Geopolitics, Geo-economy, Geo-Law, Geo-Religion, Cultural Diplomacy, African Languages, Digital Language, etc. 

The Pontifical International Marian Academy (PAMI) – the Main and the Mother Academy of the MDCN - is a scientific institution of the Holy See dedicated to the promotion and development of Mariological science for the promotion of authentic Marian piety. As an international pontifical body, it is responsible for coordinating Mariological scholars worldwide, both in research and in intercultural, ecumenical, and interreligious dialogue.

“INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE STATE OF PROFESSIONAL MARIOLOGY FORMATION AND MARIAN PIETY IN AFRICA: YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW”. 

 

The event will take place from Thursday, May 21 to Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Aula S. Antonio, Pontifical University Antonianum, Rome, Italy.

It is a follow-up to the “First World Marian Congress in Africa” organized by MDCN-International Bio-Research Institute (IBI) in collaboration with the Pontificia Academia Mariana Internationalis (PAMI) in Enugu, Nigeria, 2019.

The main objective of the Conference is to assess, from an international perspective, the situation of the formation of Mariology professionals in the African continent, as well as to examine the position of Marian devotion of African peoples and its impact on inter-cultural relations, promotion of femininity, defense of motherhood, revolution of tenderness and compassion, and promotion of our common home, etc.

The whole programme, therefore, aims to contribute to the promotion of sound Mariological formation and compassionate Marian piety, not only in Africa but worldwide.
